What is "Hosting?"
"Hosting" refers to the location of the actual files that makes
up your web pages. In order to view files on the web, a "host" must maintain
the files on the hard drive of a computer that is directly connected to the
Internet.
What about "Email?"
- When you register a domain name to be hosted on one of our servers,
we begin the process to create your default email address as: username@yourdomain.com
- (Be aware, "new" domain names may take 3
to 4 days on getting all the new registration data online.)
By default, all email sent to your new email address is forwarded to the
email account you gave us when you ordered your account. You may also disable
this feature and download your email directly from our POP3 mail server.
- You may have an unlimited number of virtual email addresses that end
with: @yourdomain.com
Each is called an "Email Alias" A simply request with the desired
name(s) and where to send it, is all it takes to create an alias:
- sales@yourdomain.com
forwarded to: default email
- service@yourdomain.com
forwarded to: default email
- support@yourdomain.com
forwarded to: uncleIt@his.com
There will be a one-time processing charge of $2.50 for each alias requested.
What about having more than one "domain name" pointing to the
same website?
Yes, you may have as many as wish... The domain name you choose for
your new website is referred to as your primary domain. Setup for your
primary domain name is included free of charge. Howerver, additional
domain name pointing to the same website (account) will be referred
to as secondary domains. Secondary domains each cost an additional $15
for the initial nameserver setup plus $1/month. Registration
for new/transferred domain names through Perky Penguins' are $25/year
each.
For Speed: The network is OC-3 connected along with a T1-connected
backup system. Currently, it only operates at about 18% load capacity,
so there's plenty of bandwidth to spare. All our accounts come with unlimited
bandwidth... So, you'll never be charged for your website's success.
For Reliablity: Your new website will be hosted on a Dell PowerEdge
server running Apache 1.3.27 with RedHat Linux. Plus, the entire network
is monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to assure
that every website is up and running all the time.
